Embarking on Your CCS Journey

CCS Validation & Verification: A Geologic Perspective

1:30 pm - 1:55 pm

Rob Decesari

Ryder Scott

This presentation dives into the geological components of CCS projects that are analyzed and evaluated during third party due diligence reviews. Integration of geological and geophysical data sets are key to characterizing subsurface risks and uncertainties inherent in any CCS project. The third party geologic validation and verification provides an additional level of confidence and enhances trust among investors, regulators, and the general public.

Third-Party Verification: Auditor Workflow

1:55 pm - 2:20 pm

Marylena Garcia

Ryder Scott

In this presentation, we will outline the auditor workflow for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) third-party verification, focusing on the application of EPA guidelines for Class VI well submissions. The presentation will provide a comprehensive understanding of the verification process, including key steps, documentation requirements, and best practices for ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

CCUS Value Chain - Capture and Sequestration Economics

2:20 pm - 2:45 pm

Nikhil Joshi

Verde CO2

The discussion focusses on CCS economics and opportunities in the short and long term. The focus will be on the revenue (permanent sequestration) and costs along with TRL of capture technologies. The revenue is primarily through Class VI (40 CFR Part 98, Subpart RR) or Class II (40 CFR Part 98, Subpart UU). The costs are highly dependent on the source of the flue gas and its composition. Several technologies are available and evolving for CO2 capture with varying TRLs. The discussion will focus on short and long-term deployment of capture technologies and associated techno-economic assessment.

Nearly two years since the proposed climate disclosure rules were disclosed and with over 24,000 comments and letters later received, the highly anticipated SEC’s Final Rules were finally approved on March 6. 2024.  This decision will have a strong impact on many energy companies, now mandated to disclose their Scope 1 and 2 emissions. This disclosure requirement represents a significant milestone in corporate climate reporting, driving the need for strategic alignment and comprehensive risk management practices.

In this session, Ryder Scott will dive into what this really means for energy companies and will discuss the qualitative and quantitative aspects of the reporting requirements, Scope 1 and Scope 2 requirements for AFs and LAFs, materiality definition, and attestation requirements.
