Frequently Asked Questions About ComboSync

ComboSync is a ComboCurve-hosted data automation and integration solution. It can facilitate bi-directional data flow between a variety of client internal and external data sources and ComboCurve. It ingests client and third-party well header, production (daily & monthly), directional surveys, and other relevant data to your workflows in CC, and extracts a variety of native ComboCurve products to your own relational data stores (or even flat files) on a scheduled basis.

In order to get ComboSync up and running, you will need a server running Windows 10+ or Windows Server 2016+ to host the ComboSync Data Agent Service. The data agent service acts as the access point to communicate between your 3rd party data sources, your database and ComboCurve. You will also need an internal relational database to land and stage data in if you will be reading from 3rd party data products such as (SPGCI, Enverus, TGS, etc.). If you have internal op/non-op data that you store in an internal database already (such as a well master), then you may be able to use the same database for the 3rd party data as well. The ComboSync Data Agent can also reside on the same server as the database (preferred). Lastly, our Data Operations team will need to work with your team (IT, Data Services/Management, End Users) to get everyone aligned on processes, expectations, and outcomes.

We are continuously expanding ComboSync’s connections. To date, our various external endpoints include SQL Server, Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Snowflake, Oracle, AWS Redshift, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Azure Data Lake, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Delta Lake, IHS Services, Enverus Services, and MongoDB. We can also pull from and extract to common flat file types (csv, json, etc.)

The most common problems are data-specific and centered around data management (integrity, quality), governance, solution planning, and the volume of data itself. Sync communicates with ComboCurve through our own external RESTful API, as well as connects to a variety of 3rd party (public) API and relational sources apart from client internal sources, so we work to remain compliant with various security frameworks (ComboCurve is SOC 1 Type II and SOC 2 Type II certified) and ensure proper network configuration.

The implementation and deployment process varies based on client requirements and the quantity of data being ingested/extracted. Depending on size and complexity, a single-connection ComboSync deployment can be delivered in as fast as one hour, and a full solution typically does not require longer than two weeks from Discovery to Deployment.
